What is Visual Journaling?
It's a way to use art to:
  • Reduce stress.
  • Release anger.
  • Resolve conflicts.
  • Get in touch with feelings.
  • Give voice to your soul.
  • Even if you can’t draw!
  • How Images Express What Words Cannot
Ganim and Fox, art therapists discovered, “that within all of us is a silent language that reveals the truth of our thoughts, feelings and emotions far more fluently than words. That language is imagery. Visual journaling is a process they developed to encourage the expression of this inner language on a regular basis”.
  • Self expression by Visual Journaling
Imagery is the body-mind’s first or primary means of inner communication. Words are a secondary form of outer communication.
A method used to communicate with each other.
Inner imagery is a more accurate way of expressing and understanding how we feel and think

  • Imagistic Language
Reveals truth of how feel about experiences or issues Communicates the messages not from logical, rational, conscious mind but from deeper subconscious mind.

Reveals source of wisdom
Ganim and Fox call “soul wisdom”
You don’t have to be an artist!
  • Have a nagging sense of fear and self-doubt?
  • I don’t know how to use the materials…
  • I was told I had no talent in art class…
  • I feel stupid drawing stick figures when I see the talent of others…
NOTE: The meaning will come thru perhaps even clearer in a simple picture.
  • Not about creating art!
It’s about expressing an imagistic language whose alphabet is color, shape, line, form and texture. The more simple and natural the rendering of this language, the more truthful the meaning.
Even scribbles, lines, undefined gestures can beautifully and completely express the imagery of the soul

  • Access your inner wisdom
Used regularly you will know which choices and decisions are right for you with any issue you may be facing. This helps avoid the inner conflict between thoughts and feelings which causes stress.
Can help you to release stress and maintain your physical body in a state of healthy well-being. Shows you what changes need to occur in your life to begin healing from within.

  • Using Verbal Responses to Process A Drawing
Words are used to dialogue with yourself about your imagery. Combine verbal thoughts with imagistic perceptions serves as an important tool to integrate the visual, intuitive, feeling-centered right brain with the verbal, logical, thought-centered left brain.
